What is a Slurry Seal?
A Slurry Seal is a cold mixed asphalt slurry. It consists of an emulsified asphalt, graded aggregate, binder, fines and additives. It is a hard wearing surfacing for pavement preservation.

What is it used for?
Slurry Seals are for sealing aged and raveled pavements, filling minor cracks, restoring skid resistance and restoring aesthetic appeal. It may be used on freeways, residential streets, parking lots and any area that needs the pavement to be preserved.

Are there different types?
Slurry Seals come in three types. Stone sizes give different surface textures.

 · Type I uses a fine aggregate and is for parking lots and taxiways.
 · Type II, the most commonly used type, uses a coarser aggregate and is used for all applications including arterial roads, residential areas and highways.
 · Type III uses the coarsest aggregate and is used on freeways, high speed roads, industrial estates and runways.

Different types of aggregate will give lighter or darker results. The famous Iron Mountain type aggregate will give your surfacing that new look all through its life.

How is Slurry made?
Slurry is mixed in a traveling paver truck. The exact proportions, determined in a laboratory mix design, are mixed in a pugmill on the truck.

Slurry is laid through a specially designed spreader box. It is fast and efficient as well as cost effective. This makes for an even-textured surface.

What does it do?
Slurry seal will not increase the strength of an existing pavement. However, slurry seal does prolong the life of a sound pavement by providing a protective coating.
