Slurry Seal

Slurry Seal

Slurry Seal is a low-cost surface maintenance procedure that is quick to apply & long-lasting.

What is a Slurry Seal?

A Slurry Seal is a cold, mixed asphalt slurry. It consists of emulsified asphalt, graded fine aggregate, and additives. It is a hard-wearing surfacing for pavement preservation.

  • Protects the road structure
  • Perfect for residential/low-traffic roads
  • Good skid resistance

What is it used for?

Slurry Seal treats aged and raveled pavements by filling minor cracks, replacing lost surface aggregate, restoring skid resistance, and restoring aesthetic appeal. It may be used on freeways, residential streets, parking lots, and any area that needs the pavement to be preserved.

Are there different types?

Slurry Seals come in three types. Aggregate sizes give different surface textures.

  • Type I uses a fine aggregate and is for parking lots and taxiways.
  • Type II, the most commonly used type, uses a coarser aggregate and is used for all applications including arterial roads, residential areas, and highways.
  • Type III uses the coarsest aggregate and is used on freeways, high-speed roads, industrial estates, and runways.

Different types of aggregate will give lighter or darker results.

How is Slurry made?

Slurry Seal is made in specially designed truck-mounted equipment. This equipment carries unmixed materials which are blended together in a continuous flow pugmill which ensures a smooth, consistently uniform mixture. Slurry Seal is made at the project site. Mixing and spreading are accomplished in one continuous operation. The surface may be reopened to travel within a few hours.

Benefits of Slurry Seal?

Slurry Seal extends the life of the existing pavement by protecting it from oxidation and deterioration. This process creates an even textured surface.
